Peermusic Acquires South Korea's Music Cube

Peermusic has now acquired Music Cube, whose catalog includes songs from BTS.

Peermusic has been rather busy as of late.

Last summer, the independent publisher acquired Accorder Music Publishing, a UK-based indie film and TV publisher.  Accorder has represented a roster of composers for shows including Great British Bake Off, River Monsters, The Great American Read, and Teletubbies, among others.

Then, several weeks later, Peermusic signed songwriter Linda Perry to a global publishing deal.  Under terms of the deal, the indie publisher launched a joint venture with We Are Hear Music, Perry’s record label, publishing, and management company.

Now, the indie publisher has confirmed another major acquisition.

Moving into the K-Pop scene.

According to a new report, Peermusic has acquired South Korean independent music publisher, Music Cube.

The deal adds 40,000 Korean copyrights to its global catalog.  This includes works from BTS, Red Velvet, and AOA.

The acquisition marks the US indie publisher’s 30th entry into a worldwide market.  Heesun Park will serve as General Manager of Peermusic Korea, and will report directly to Mary Megan Peer, Deputy CEO.  Peer oversees the indie publisher’s Asian operations, including companies in Beijing, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Speaking about the acquisition, she said,

We’re thrilled to continue our working relationship with Music Cube with this acquisition and to expand Peermusic’s presence in IFPI’s sixth largest music market in the world.

The growth of Music Cube’s repertoire both domestically and internationally has been phenomenal.  Our representation of Music Cube’s catalog worldwide has given us first-hand visibility into the rising popularity of K-Pop around the globe.  We’re looking forward to continuing working with Heesun Park and her team.

Park added,

The partnership between Music Cube and Peermusic has been very important for us as Korean music has become more successful internationally over the past ten years.

This deal is a huge win for our songwriters, who will benefit from even greater support and resources that come with joining a global publisher.

We’re all excited to continue to build on all the work we’ve done with Mary Megan and the Peermusic team by creating more collaborations between Korean and foreign songwriters.
